The annoying questions, from my friend Michael, stopped after he followed my suggestion to look into shelving by design. To make room for two new-born babies, Michael and his wife purchased a house. Having recently finished graduate school and starting careers as professors at a university, Michael and his wife needed room for their many books. Shelving by design provided a safer alternative, for a home with infants, to conventional bookcases and high shelving.
Michael's wife had discarded his large, oaken shelving and let the books remain in boxes, because the shelving conflicted with her taste in decor. Easy access to a large portion of their well-loved literature for reference is something that their careers demanded. Samples of shelving by design provided Michael's wife with the opportunity to arrange the books in the room in an organized way for easy retrieval.
After the first semester, they no longer needed to teach without an organized book collection. These matched her need for feng shui, modern design, and the safety of their children. The new shelving opened up a whole array of artistic possibilities which were now available to them and needed sorting out. Michael, of course, let his wife do all the research and measured the room and shelving areas for her.
After making the shelving by design recommendation, I stepped out of the way while Michael and his wife began the task of finding and installing their shelving. The books are now housed in the sleek white shelving units of varying sizes, which she chose to line the walls of the room. I no longer need to loan shelving in my office to Michael and his wife after they followed my recommendation.
Michael's wife has had many compliments on her new furniture, and I've been thanked many times for the recommendation. Hopefully she never notices that my shelving by design receives twice as many compliments.
